India and England played the first T20I of the five-match series on July 1 in Chester-Le-Street. India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat first.
India again had a terrible start as Sanju Samson was dismissed for one run and Ishan Kishan, for the second game in a row, got run out. However, Abhishek Sharma’s 59 with 6 fours and 4 sixes and a brilliant captain’s knock from Shreyas Iyer, who made 68 with 6 fours and one six, took India to 189/7. Shivam Dube also contributed with 42* in 21 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes to his name.
However, heavy rain ensured that England didn’t come out to chase the total, and the game was abandoned due to rain.
After a significant error with opening partner Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan was run out in the first Twenty20 International between India and England. After being run out in India's previous T20I against Ireland, Kishan's suffering was exacerbated by the dismissal, which occurred just two balls into his innings.
Kishan nudged the ball towards midwicket and started chasing a quick single, but Abhishek decided against the run after witnessing Harry Brook intercept the ball. Abhishek's annoyance was evident when the replay was being reviewed after the decision was submitted to the third umpire.
During their brief exchange, Abhishek was heard asking Kishan, "Tu pahuncha ki nahin pahuncha, kya kar raha hai yaar Ishan? (Did you make it or not? What are you doing, yaar, Ishan?"
Ishan Kishan replied that it was his call, and the result might be very close.
