ENG v IND 2022: Cricket fraternity reacts as Pant's 125*, Hardik's all-round show helps India win by 5 wickets; pocket series 2-1

India won the three-match ODI series 2-1 after winning the third and final ODI match by 5 wickets which was played in Manchester on July 17, 2022. This victory came thanks to an all-rounder show by Hardik Pandya and a scintillating maiden ODI century by Rishabh Pant.  

Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first. Jos Buttler (60), Jason Roy (41), Moeen Ali (34), and Craig Overton (32) took England to 259 in 45.5 overs. For India, Mohammed Siraj did the initial damage with wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root for ducks and then Hardik Pandya took over, by bouncing out Ben Stokes, Jason Roy, Jos Buttler, and Liam Livingstone, ending with figures of 4/24.

In reply, England started well with Rohit Sharma (17), Shikhar Dhawan (1), and Virat Kohli (17) falling early. Even the dependable Suryakumar Yadav got out early for 16 runs, leaving India 72/4.

Then Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant came together and played sensibly with Pandya being the aggressor. They added 133 runs for the 5th wicket. Hardik, unfortunately, fell for 71 in 55 balls with 10 fours.

Rishabh Pant | GettyPant continued after Pandya’s wicket and kicked into the 5th gear adding 56* runs for the 6th wicket with Ravindra Jadeja, in which Jadeja made 7* runs. Pant hit David Willey for 5 fours in an over after bringing up his maiden ODI century in 106 balls.

Eventually, India reached the target with 5 wickets in hand and in 42.1 overs with Pant remaining unbeaten on 125 in 113 balls with 16 fours and 2 sixes to his name, as India pocketed the series 2-1. Reece Topley shined once more for England with 3/35.

The cricket fraternity lauded Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya for their performances on Twitter and the Indian team for winning the series.
