On Tuesday (July 12) at the Oval Stadium, England batters were dismantled by India pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the opening ODI of the series. He was unplayable and made excellent use of the conditions, as evident by his stats of 6/19 in 7.2 overs.
His spell was pivotal in restricting the home side to just 110. He said in the post-match presentation that the intent was to exploit the swinging conditions at the Oval.
"When there's swing and seam movement, it is very exciting in white-ball cricket to get that opportunity because you have to be defensive with the kind of pitches we usually get. When I bowled the first ball, I found some swing and we tried to exploit that.
"When it doesn't swing, I have to pull my lengths back. When the ball is doing something you don't have to try a lot. When the wicket is flat your accuracy is tested. It is a good place to be when the ball is swinging. As soon as Shami bowled the first over, we had a conversation to go fuller," Bumrah stated.

The right-arm pacer also praised Rishabh Pant for his brilliance behind the stumps and Mohammad Shami (3/31) for being among the wickets.
"Very happy for him, he gets a lot of wickets. I told him when he beats the bat, that there would be days when he'd run through the side. When the ball is moving around, the keeper and the cordon is very active. Very happy that Rishabh has been working hard on his keeping as well as his batting," he stated.
The Men in Blue chased down the modest total without a scratch on their back with openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan remaining unbeaten on 76 and 31. The match was finished within the first 20 overs of the second innings.
The second ODI will be played out on Thursday (July 14) at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
