Bumrah picked 6/19, the best bowling figures in ODIs by an Indian bowler against England | GettyJasprit Bumrah was the toast of the day during the first ODI between England and India at the Oval on July 12, 2022. England was bowled out for just 110 runs after Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first in overcast conditions.

It was a masterclass from Bumrah in swing and seam bowling as he demolished the England top order as he dismissed Jason Roy and Joe Root for ducks and Jonny Bairstow was out for 7 runs. While Roy inside edged a wide ball onto his stumps, Root was done by the extra bounce and caught behind.

Bairstow, however, edged a ball that was near him and was caught by Rishabh Pant brilliantly, leaving England 17/4.

However, the best dismissal of the innings came when he clean bowled Liam Livingstone. The England batter tried to negate the swing by taking a couple of strides down the wicket, exposing his stumps and Bumrah’s delivery came into him early and cannoned into the base of his stumps sending him back for a duck.

Bryon Carse did well for his 15 runs, but Bumrah was brought back by Rohit Sharma to end the innings and he did it by bowling an amazing yorker at 144 kph, which rattled the off and middle stump.

The final wicket that Bumrah took was that of David Willey who made 21 and tried to move outside off stump and hoick him over the leg side. But the delivery was too full and too fast for him and demolished the stumps.

Bumrah became the first Indian pacer to take a six-wicket haul in England and broke Ashish Nehra’s record for best bowling figures by an Indian bowler (6/23) against England with his own 6/19.
