Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja slammed former Indian skipper Kapil Dev after he questioned Virat Kohli’s place in the Indian T20I side.

There is no doubt about the quality of Kohli as a player. He’s regarded as one of the finest cricketers the world has witnessed. However, of late he has looked off-color and has struggled to score runs in all three formats.

With youngsters performing well for the side, Kohli has faced the heat and pressure is mounting on him to perform. But things got even worse for him when he scored just 1 run in the second T20I against England at Edgbaston and then followed it with 11 runs in the third game.

With T20 World Cup 2022 around the corner, many fans and pundits have raised concerns over his form and feel that he’s blocking the way for youngsters and doesn’t fit in India’s new T20I style of playing.

Recently, Kapil Dev had said that if a player of the stature of R Ashwin can be dropped from the Test side then Kohli can be benched from T20Is too. He stressed that in-form players should be given chance ahead of the not in-form established players.

"Yes, now the situation is such that you might be forced to bench Kohli from T20 playing eleven. If world No. 2 bowler Ashwin can be dropped from Test side then (once upon a time) world No. 1 batter can also be dropped," Kapil had told ABP news.

Reacting to Kapil’s statement, Khawaja sarcastically slammed the former Indian cricketer. He highlighted Kohli’s T20I record and said that it was a good call. The southpaw commented on ICC’s post, which shared the former’s comments.

"averages 50 at almost 140. Good call. Australia Agrees," Khawaja said.
