Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has backed India batter, Virat Kohli, to return to form soon after another poor outing on the England tour. The right-hander scored 11 and 20 in both innings, as Team India suffered a seven-wicket defeat in the rescheduled fifth Test against England.
Well, now the focus has been shifted to the limited-overs series between England and India, starting with the first T20I on July 7, and Latif said that he saw some positive in Kohli during the rescheduled Test and that’s why he has hopes of him coming back to his form with the bat.
Rashid Latif said on the YouTube channel ‘Caught Behind’: “I do believe he will come back. I have some hopes. World cricket needs him because of the way he plays. In this very match at Edgbaston, he went and picked up a fight. Pange lete hai full, kabhi Leach se le liya, kabhi Root se le liya (he has a habit of picking on opponent players, once he did that with Leach, then with Root).”
He further mentioned that Kohli’s body language was positive in Birmingham as he was supporting the Indian bowlers despite having a tough day against England.
Latif added, “So this is a positive sign that he will surely come back. Because he is a team man and he supports his players well, and the way he supports them, there is hope that he will come back.”
The former Pakistani captain also said that Kohli will be counted among legends like Sachin Tendulkar and possibly Sir Don Bradman when he retires from the game.
He concluded, “These things happen in every player's life. When he leaves cricket, his name will be at par with Sachin Tendulkar. Who knows it may be at par with Sir Don Bradman.”
