Former England captain Michael Vaughan warned Shreyas Iyer that he must solve his issue with short-pitched deliveries if he wants to continue playing successfully at the highest level.

Iyer’s struggles against short balls are well-known to all, but he hasn’t ironed out the issue despite being dismissed again and again while playing that delivery. He is a terrific player against spin, but when it comes to short-pitched bowling, there is no struggler than him.

England’s head coach, Brendon McCullum, is aware of Iyer’s struggles against short balls, and he made the most of that knowledge in the rescheduled Test, as he worked with him for KKR in the IPL 2022.

Iyer must find a solution to his short-ball problem, otherwise, he might lose his place in the Indian team after he could manage only 15 and 19 runs in both innings against England. He further said that Iyer could not survive if he went to Australia for the T20 World Cup in 2022.

Michael Vaughan told Cricbuzz: “Iyer has got a problem with the short ball, let's not beat around the bush. No matter what he plays, T20, ODI, or Test cricket, he is going to get bounced.”

He signed off by saying, “If he goes to the T20 World Cup in Australia on those big wickets, guess what all the other teams are going to do to him. He's got an issue, a real issue and for him to continue playing at this level, he's gonna have to iron it out.”
