England started off well in their chase of the 378-run target set by India in the ongoing fifth Test at Edgbaston, thanks to the openers Zak Crawley and Alex Lees adding 107 runs for the first wicket.
Despite Jasprit Bumrah taking two wickets and Lees getting run out, Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root added 150 unbeaten runs for the 4th wicket to put England in command in the chase as they ended the fourth day at 259/3, needing 119 runs more for an emphatic victory and level the series.
Root remained unbeaten on 76, while Bairstow was 72* and they had just hammered the Indian bowlers, especially Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj as the partnership grew stronger.

The Indian cricket team fans on social media trended the name of ace off-spinner R Ashwin, with many saying that the tweaker should have been included in the Indian playing XI in place of Shardul Thakur, who has not been able to make much impact on the game.
Ashwin now missed all the five Test matches of this England series, as he benched for the first four Tests as well, which were played in 2021.
