A new milestone has been added to the stellar career of Jasprit Bumrah, who recently made history by becoming the first fast bowler to captain his country since Kapil Dev in March 1987.
Bumrah now holds the record for the most wickets taken by an Indian seamer versus England in a Test series, surpassing Kapil's total on Monday (July 4).
Bumrah has 23 wickets to his name in the current series while Kapil had claimed 22 wickets in the 1981–82 series. With 19 wickets, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is third on the list. On Day 4 of the rescheduled Test at Edgbaston, the stand-in India skipper removed Ollie Pope to go past the record of the legendary all-rounder.

With his tally reaching 101 wickets in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) countries, the 27-year-old became the sixth bowler from his nation to do so. Along with some of the best Indian bowlers, including Anil Kumble (141), Ishant Sharma (130), Zaheer Khan (119), Mohammed Shami (119), and Kapil Dev, he has joined the elite list.
Bumrah is serving as India's captain for the first time in the Edgbaston Test since vice-captain KL Rahul is out injured and regular skipper Rohit Sharma recently tested positive for covid.
Bumrah was appointed vice-captain of the Indian white-ball team earlier this year ahead of the three-match ODI series in South Africa.
Post the Edgbaston Test, Team India will take on the same opposition in the limited-overs series.
