After his dubious record was broken on Saturday, July 2, former South Africa spinner Robin Peterson posted a humorous tweet. Fast bowler Stuart Broad broke the record for the costliest over in Test cricket on the second day of the fifth Test between India and England at Edgbaston.
Legendary batter Brian Lara had set a Test record for most runs scored in a single over in December 2003 at the Wanderers in Johannesburg against South Africa.
Lara had scored 28 runs against the left-arm spinner, including four fours and two sixes. Despite Lara's efforts, the Caribbean side lost by a score of 189 runs. James Anderson and Joe Root of England had also conceded 28 runs in an over.
English pacer Stuart Broad gave away 35 runs on Saturday after being thoroughly hammered by Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah who scored 29, along with the six extra runs.
Peterson, in the meantime, took to Twitter and wrote, “Sad to lose my record today oh well, records are made to be broken I guess. Onto the next one.”
Here is the tweet by Robin Peterson:
Bumrah, who is leading India at Edgbaston, scored an unbeaten 31 off 16 balls, with four fours and two sixes to his name. After being 98-5 within the first 30 overs, India recovered to post a respectable 416 in their first innings.
The Three Lions' bowler James Anderson went on to add yet another five-wicket haul to his glittering Test career.
