Ravichandran Ashwin has not travelled to United Kingdom (UK) with the Indian team for the final Test against England after testing positive for COVID-19, as per a report.

Ashwin is currently quarantining and will only join his teammates after meeting all the protocols. The first batch of the Indian team travelled to UK on June 16, while Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and coach Rahul Dravid travelled on Monday (June 20) after completion of the T20I series against South Africa.

“Ashwin hasn’t travelled with the squad to UK as he has tested positive for Covid 19 before departure. But we are hopeful that he will recover well in time before the Test match starts on July 1,” a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

“However he might miss the practice game against Leicestershire,” the source added.

Ashwin was part of the Indian squad last year for the England tour but did not play in any of the first four Test matches with Ravindra Jadeja being preferred as the only spinner in the playing XI.

India currently leads England 2-1 with the fifth Test scheduled to start on July 1 at Edgbaston. The team had its first practice session in Leicester on Monday, ahead of the four-day warm-up fixture against Leicestershire from June 24.
