Former Indian captain and commentator, Sunil Gavaskar, heaped praise on Umran Malik and backed the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer to make it into the Team India squad for the upcoming England tour.
The Jammu and Kashmir pace sensation bowled consistently over 150 kmph and troubled batters throughout IPL 2022 to make his case strong for India's call. He has taken 21 wickets from 13 matches so far in the ongoing IPL 2022, with SRH’s set to play against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 22 in their last league match.
Hailing the young speed merchant, Gavaskar said that it wasn’t just Umran’s speed, but his accuracy also left him impressed and said that he should be in India's squad for the upcoming bilateral series in England in July.

Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports' Cricket Live show: “Umran Malik has been very, very impressive with his speed but more than his speed, it's his accuracy that's impressed me the most. A lot of guys who bowl at that speed tend to spray the ball around but Umran bowls very few wide deliveries.”
The Indian batting legend added, “If he can control the wides down the leg side, he will be a tremendous bowler because that will mean he'll be attacking the stumps all the time, and with his pace, it's not easy to hit straight. If he bowls wicket-to-wicket, he will be pretty much an unplayable bowler.”
He signed off by saying, “He's going to play for India. He should be in that Indian squad for the one-off Test and the ODI series against England.”
