Michael Vaughan, the former England captain, is known for his humorous and instigating tweets on social media, especially when it comes to winding up the Indian cricket fans. He had predicted a win for England in the 4th Test at the Oval against India, especially after their win in Leeds.
However, the Indian team completely outplayed the Joe Root-led team in Oval, despite being bowled out for 191 in the 1st innings, after been asked to bat first by Root, who won the toss.
Shardul Thakur came good for India with a half-century, while Virat Kohli also made an assuring 50.
Indian bowlers came to the party as they kept England’s lead to 99 runs, by bowling them out for 290. Ollie Pope made 81 and Chris Woakes slammed a fifty, following his 4/55.
Rohit Sharma’s 127 led the charge for India in the second innings, and Cheteshwar Pujara (61) and Rishabh Pant (50) did amazingly well. But the most important innings came from Shardul, who made 60 runs and enabled India to post 466 runs and set England 368 runs to win.
Umesh Yadav with three wickets and Bumrah, Jadeja and Shardul picked two wickets each as England folded for 210 runs despite the openers making fifties each. India won by 157 runs, their second Test win at Oval since 1971.
Michael Vaughan took the England defeat sportingly and posted an egg on the face photo.
Furthermore, he tweeted while lauding India, calling them the best team at the moment and saying, “Sometimes you have to accept that a Team is better than you when the pressure is on … India are better when it really matters … #Fact #ENGvIND.”
