ENG v IND 2021: Kohli should call Sachin for help or do what Tendulkar did in SCG Test in 2004- Gavaskar

Kohli has scored 69 runs in four innings in the ongoing Test series against England.

Virat Kohli has struggled in the ongoing Test series | Getty Team India captain Virat Kohli has not been at his best for a couple of years now. He last scored a century in November 2019 and has been struggling in the ongoing Test series against England.

The batsman has scored 69 runs in the four innings this series including a golden duck and has repeatedly got out trying to poke at balls outside the off-stump. Kohli fell for seven runs to a ball well outside off-stump bowled by James Anderson on day 1 of the third Test as India was bowled out for 78 runs.

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has said that Kohli must seek guidance from the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. He added that the skipper must take inspiration from Tendulkar’s Sydney innings played in 2004.

"He should give a quick call to SRT (Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar) and ask what should I do? [He should] Do what Sachin Tendulkar did at Sydney. Say to himself that I am not going to play the cover drive.

That is a bit of a worry for me because he is getting dismissed at the fifth, sixth, and even seventh stump. In 2014, he was getting out more around the off-stump," said Gavaskar while pointing to the fact that he is being drawn into playing outside the off-stump.

Tendulkar had scored 241* runs in Sydney Test in 2004. The innings is famously remembered for Tendulkar not playing a single cover-drive in his innings, curbing his natural instincts for 613 minutes and 436 balls.

Anderson dismissed Kohli for the seventh time in Test cricket, equalling Nathan Lyon as the bowler to have dismissed the Indian captain most times in Tests.
