August 16, 2021 saw India registering their third Test win at Lord's, and it was quite a dramatic turnaround on the final day when play resumed with the visitors at 181/6, giving them a lead of 154 runs.

All eyes were on Rishabh Pant to shepherd the tail and get India's lead past 200, but the wicketkeeper-batsman departed early leaving the Indian tail made up of four fast bowlers to fend for themselves.

However, it was a day when the fast bowlers made a strong contribution with the bat when least expected, as Ishant Sharma (16), Mohammad Shami (56*) and Jasprit Bumrah (34*) helped India to reach 298/8 before captain Virat Kohli decided to declare the innings. England needed 272 runs to win or more realistically bat 60 overs to draw the match.

With tensions running high on the field as players exchanged words from both sides, India was fired up for the final two sessions of play. Kohli, in his speech during the team huddle on the field, was heard saying, “For 60 overs they should feel hell out there”.

India's four seamers were relentless as England succumbed to the pressure and were bowled out for 120 in 51.5 overs, as India completed a historic win at Lord's by 151 runs with 49 balls left in the match to go 1-0 up in the series.

After the match, Kohli said, “Super proud of the whole team. The way we stuck to our plans after being put in. The pitch didn’t offer much in the first three days. First day was the most challenging,”

“The way we played in the second innings after being put under pressure – Jasprit and Shami were outstanding. We had the belief we can get them out in 60 overs. The tension in the field in our second innings, what happened there, helped us,” he added.

The third Test of the five-match series will be played from August 25 at Headingley, Leeds.
