Team India displayed great character, grit, and heart to register an impressive 151-run win in the second Test at Lord’s to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
India was close to a victory in the first Test as well but rain played spoilsport and washed out day five with India needing 157 runs to win.
Indian middle-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara found form and scored 45 runs off 206 balls after a top-order collapse. Pujara along with vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane (61) put up a 100-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Speaking about the series so far, Pujara said that he was proud of the way the team had performed in the first two matches.
"It is a great feeling, winning any Test in England is special. We had our chances in the first Test, but we won this one, we are really proud of how we played in this Test. It was a team effort, everyone contributed. It is a great start to the series, but there is a lot to play for. We are really proud of how we played in the first two Tests," Pujara said in a video posted on bcci.tv.
On his 100-run partnership with Rahane, Pujara said: "The most important thing was to stay at the crease and see out good spells, we knew it would be easy to bat when the ball gets soft."
Rahane said that the team was not complacent and would look to win the next three Tests as well.
"This win means a lot to us, but this is just one Test, there are three more to go. We are not complacent, we just want to enjoy this win. I am really happy," said Rahane.
Chasing 272 to win, England started their second innings horribly and were reduced to 1/2, but put on a fight till the 52nd over before they were bowled out for 120. Mohammed Siraj led the bowling for India and picked four wickets in each innings.
