Team India who were looking for a draw in the second Test at the beginning of Day 5, pulled off an amazing 151-run win thanks to valuable contributions by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami with the bat as well as with the ball, as England were bowled out for just 120.
While at the start of the day’s play, England was favorites to win this Test match, a fantastic partnership between Shami and Bumrah took the away from hosts.
England skipper Joe Root took the responsibility for this defeat as India went 1-0 up in this five-match Test series with 3 Test matches to go.
“You're always trying to find ways to deal with things like that, we couldn't; see out the day which was frustrating but a lot of cricket to play and well come back hard,” Root said in the post-match presentation.
“A lot on my shoulders, as captain you take responsibility, tactically we could have done things differently - we went to a position where we could win to being behind. More than anything we got a few things wrong, credit to them, they played well for that partnership. But I'd do things differently,” he added.
The right-hand batsman who scored a superb unbeaten 180 in the first innings then talked about the positives from the game and the lessons learnt to be better in the next matches.
“They threw everything into the test, Mark's hurt himself, but his attitude was great, seeing Mo playing the way he has was encouraging. We've found ourselves in this position before and come out on top. Be patient, learn the lessons and be better next time,” the Englishman signed off.
England and India will be locking horns once again in the third Test match at Headingley in Leeds scheduled to begin from 25 August.
