Team India were expected to dominate the ongoing Lord’s Test on the second day but the visitors had a disappointing outing with the bat.
The tourists were 276 for 3 at the close of play on Day 1 with KL Rahul (127*) and Ajinkya Rahane (1*) unbeaten in the middle. However, the English attack, led by veteran pacer James Anderson, brought the hosts back in the contest, bowling India out for 364 in the first innings.
Anderson, who had claimed the wickets of Rohit Sharma (83) and Cheteshwar Pujara (9) on Day 1, dismissed Rahane (1), Ishant Sharma (8), Jasprit Bumrah (0) on the second day. He got rid of Rahane in his very first delivery of the day to trigger India’s collapse.
Indian team lost 7 wickets for 88 runs on Day 2 as Anderson returned with the figures of 5 for 62 – his 31st five-wicket haul in Test cricket.
Apart from Anderson, Ollie Robinson (2-73) removed Rahul early in the day on 129 while Mark Wood managed to dismiss the dangerous looking Rishabh Pant (37) and Ravindra Jadeja (40). All-rounder Moeen Ali also chipped in with a wicket.
For his stellar showing with the ball, the 39-year-old James Anderson garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
