KL Rahul made a comeback to the Indian Test team after two years and opened the innings for the team in the first Test played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham against England. This happened due to injuries to Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal, the other openers in the squad.
The opener grabbed the opportunity with both hands and scored a patient 84 runs in 214 balls. His innings helped India start strong and get a lead of 95 runs in the first innings. He looked fluent in the second innings too but was dismissed on 26.
Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal praised the Karnataka batsman saying he performed under pressure and had impressed him.
"In this Test match, the Indian team dominated, especially the way India bowled was outstanding. If I have to mention players of the Indian team who assessed the conditions really well and performed well, it has to be KL Rahul.
It was a comeback for him and it was not that easy. he would have been under pressure as he came back into the team after almost a year and a half and knows that the regular openers (once fit) can be called back,” Kamran Akmal said on his YouTube channel.
“He played well against England in England and in conditions favorable to the bowler. He was technically sound and mentally strong. He batted according to the format, like how one should in Tests, and gave India a brilliant start," Akmal added.
KL Rahul has scored 409 runs In the six Tests on English soil, with the highest score of 149 at Oval in 2018.
