ENG v IND 2021: First Test match called off due to incessant rains on day 5 in Trent Bridge

India needed 157 runs to win with 9 wickets in hand on day five and everyone was highly excited for the encounter which would have seen James Anderson and Stuart Broad, along with Ollie Robinson trying to defend the 209-run target.

However, all that excitement and build-up went to waste as incessant rains right from the beginning of the day resulted in the officials including the umpires, match-referees deciding to call off the day, and with it, the match ended in a draw.

India and England will take four WTC points each from this match with four more Tests to go.

England had been bowled out for 183 runs in the 1st innings with Joe Root top-scoring with 64 and Jasprit Bumrah taking 4/46. In reply, India slammed 278 runs with KL Rahul making 84 and Ravindra Jadeja making 56, and Ollie Robinson taking 5/85. India got a lead of 95 runs in the process.

In reply, England made 303 runs in the second do with Joe Root making 109 and Jasprit Bumrah taking 5/64 and ended up with 9 wickets in the match. India was set 209 runs to win the Test and go 1-0 up in the series and made 52/1 at the end of day four.

Unfortunately, rains took care of the proceedings of day 5 with no play possible, and the match ended in a draw.
