ENG v IND 2021: ECB names ‘County Select XI’ for warm-up game against India

The three-day warm-up game will be played in Durham from July 20-22.

Will Rhodes will lead County Select XI against India | GettyTeam India will play a three-day warm-up game against Select County XI as part of their preparations for the upcoming five-Test series against England, starting August 4 at Trent Bridge.

For the fixture, starting July 20 in Durham, ECB on Thursday (July 15) named Warwickshire’s Will Rhodes as captain while current Young Lions (A team) head coach Richard Dawson will oversee a Select County XI.

The match will be played behind closed doors with Indian contingent reporting multiple COVID-19 cases in recent times, including first-choice wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant.

The Select County XI squad also includes cricketers such as James Bracey and Haseeb Hameed, who have represented England in the longest format.  

“The squad was selected after consulting with the first-class counties on player availability and to provide some of the high-potential talent from across the county game with the opportunity to test themselves against the ICC World Test Championship finalists,” ECB said in a statement.

ECB is set to formulate a short bubble for this game after all selected players undergo COVID-19 tests.

“The county players will bridge into a team environment and undergo Covid testing before being cleared to play in the match.”

The ECB thanked first-class counties for their “continued support to make players available for this fixtures and to Durham County Cricket Club for providing facilities for this match to be staged.”
