India’s premier fast bowler Ishant Sharma has seemingly suffered an injury to his bowling hand during the WTC 2021 Final against New Zealand and was spotted with a splint on the fingers of his right hand.
India lost to New Zealand by 8 wickets in the World Test Championship (WTC) final on June 23, 2021, in Southampton and will now have a 42-day break before playing England in a series of five Test matches starting August 4.
It has been reported that Ishant suffered the injury during the 45th over of New Zealand’s second innings when Ross Taylor smashed a straight drive off Ishant Sharma. Though Ishant tried his best to stop the ball, he injured his hand and had to go off the field for treatment.
Jasprit Bumrah came in to complete his over. Ishant had picked 3 wickets for 48 runs in the first inning of the WTC final.
A day after the WTC final, BCCI’s senior content producer Rajal Arora shared an Instagram story where one can see the middle fingers of Ishant’s bowling hand heavily bandaged.
Ishant Sharma has 6 weeks of recovery time before the England Test series. But if he doesn’t recover in time, India has the backup of Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur to turn to.
