India and Pakistan clashed in the sixth match of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, which is being played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Sri Lanka on October 5, 2025.
As expected, Harmanpreet Kaur and Fatima Sana, respective captains of India Women and Pakistan Women, didn’t shake hands before or after the toss. This was after the hostility between the two teams that began in the Asia Cup 2025, when Suryakumar Yadav refused to shake hands with Salman Agha at the toss in their group A game.
Then Indian players also didn’t shake hands with the Pakistani players after the match, and this continued in the Super Fours and the final. The Indian team even refused to take the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi’s hands, who is the PCB chief and interior minister of Pakistan. This led to Naqvi taking the trophy and winners’ medals with him and holding the hostage since then.
Meanwhile, keen-eyed fans caught a huge goof-up during the toss. Australia’s Mel Jones was the presenter, and as Harmanpreet Kaur tossed the coin up in the air. Pakistan captain Fatima Sana clearly called ‘tails’, but Mel Jones announced that the coin fell as ‘heads’ and wished Sana on winning the toss.
Harmanpreet Kaur didn’t react much, ignoring Sana as she approached Jones for a chat and revealed that Pakistan would bowl first.
