The Indian Women’s team will open the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 tournament on September 30 against co-hosts Sri Lanka Women in Guwahati, Assam. The tournament will be played in India and Sri Lanka, with the final scheduled on November 2nd.
Eight teams are participating in the tournament: Australia, England, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand. The matches will be played in league format, with each team facing the other teams once.
The matches will be played in Guwahati, Navi Mumbai, Indore, Vizag, and Colombo, with Pakistan playing its matches in Sri Lanka as per the agreement between the BCCI and PCB.
India has been in the World Cup finals twice, in 2005 and 2017, falling to Australia and England, respectively. They are coming into this ICC Women's World Cup 2025 with full preparation and the advantage of playing at home.
Harmanpreet Kaur will have a chance to lead India to its first Women’s World Cup glory and has the vice-captain, Smriti Mandhana, in red-hot form, coming off back-to-back centuries against Australia. The squad also consists of Pratika Rawal, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harleen Deol, Richa Ghosh, Deepti Sharma, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Goud, Radha Yadav, Sneh Rana, and Renuka Singh Thakur as their main players.
The pressure will be on the Indian team, who also won the ODI series in England recently, to perform in front of the home crowd, who will be cheering loudly for the Indian girls.
Not only will the Indian Women’s team have the support of the local crowd at all home venues, but the Indian cricket fraternity also sends across their wishes to the Women in Blue for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.
