Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell recalled the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 trophy presentation ceremony at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Maxwell hailed Australian captain Pat Cummins for the way he handled the situation on the stage after the final game on November 19.

Notably, Australia defeated India by six wickets in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 to clinch their sixth title in Ahmedabad. After the historic win, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented Cummins with the trophy, while the rest of the Australian players were late to join him on stage.

However, Cummins gracefully shook hands with PM Modi and talked to him. As PM Modi and other dignitaries were leaving the podium, Cummins stood there awkwardly waiting for his teammates to join in and begin the celebrations.

Glenn Maxwell told theage.com.au: “It was quite funny watching the videos of the post-match presentation where he (Pat Cummins) shook Modi's hand and was stuck there on the podium. It felt like that lasted for about 10 minutes, him just standing there with the trophy waiting for the group to come on. But he actually dealt with it with class.”

He added, “He didn't make a big song and dance about it, [he] just thought 'You know what, I'll wait here, be respectful.' Not everyone would've dealt with that like he did.”

Notably, Maxwell will be next seen in action in the BBL 2023-24 while Cummins will be leading Australia in the three-match Test series against Australia, starting on December 14 in Perth.
