“Obviously no disrespect meant in that photo”- Mitchell Marsh on viral photo of feet on CWC trophy

Australia defeated India in CWC 2023 final in Ahmedabad.

Mitchell Marsh | InstagramAustralia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh became a two-time ICC World Cup winner after his team defeated India in the final of the CWC 2023 in Ahmedabad on November 19. This was Australia’s sixth World Cup title and just cemented their dominance in ICC tournaments.

However, post the World Cup during celebrations, a photo went viral in which Marsh could be seen with his feet resting on the dome of the World Cup trophy and posing. This led to Marsh copping a lot of criticism for disrespecting the CWC trophy.

But the all-rounder has now broken his silence on the massive criticism and said that he did not mean any disrespect to anyone with the pose.

"There was obviously no disrespect meant in that photo at all. I haven’t given it too much thought, I haven’t seen a lot on social media even though everyone tells me it’s gone off. There’s nothing in that," Marsh was quoted as saying to SEN.

Marsh also opined on the ongoing five-match T20I series where quite a few Australian cricketers stayed back in India after the World Cup.

"Yeah, it was pretty outrageous for the guys that had to stay behind. It’s a fine line because we’ve got to respect the fact we’re playing for Australia, and it’s a series against India which is always really big. But there’s also the human side of it, the boys have just won a World Cup and probably deserve to celebrate for a while and get home to their families.

It’s an interesting one. You’d hope there are not too many of those series put on after big tournaments again. I celebrated for the six guys who stayed behind, I celebrated for them," Marsh added.

Marsh notched up 441 runs from 10 matches at an average of 49 and a strike rate of 107.56 with two hundreds and one half-century to his name. One of his centuries came on his birthday as well.
