It was a heartbreaking night for the Indian team and its fans as they lost the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final to Australia by 6 wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19.
It was a brilliant all-round display by Australia in the final, as after winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, they restricted India to 240. Virat Kohli with 54, KL Rahul with 66, and Rohit Sharma with 47 were the main scorers.
In response, though Indian bowlers struck early, with Australia reeling at 47/3 at one time. But then Travis Head showed great and added 192 runs for the 4th wicket with Marnus Labuschagne (58*) added to take his team to the win. Travis Head made 137 with 15 fours and 4 sixes and was the Player of the Final.
On the other hand, India’s Virat Kohli was named the Player of the Tournament for his excellent batting in the World Cup 2023.
Kohli scored a record 765 runs in 11 matches with 3 centuries and 6 fifties to his name. He averaged 95.62 and had a strike rate of 90.31 with the best score of 117. Virat also took one wicket in the World Cup as well.
During his amazing performance, Virat Kohli completed 50 ODI centuries, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 tons in the format. Kohli also broke Tendulkar’s record of 673 runs in a single World Cup tournament, with his rich haul in CWC 2023.
However, Kohli cut a dejected figure when he was called on the stage to collect his Player of the Tournament trophy. He didn’t smile at all and just said thank you to the dignitaries after collecting the award from BCCI President Roger Binny.
