The ICC World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia is underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19. Australia won the toss and chose to bowl first on a tricky pitch.
India didn’t have a good start, losing Shubman Gill for 4 runs, but then Rohit Sharma made 47 with 4 fours and 3 sixes. But then Australia hit big with consecutive wickets of Rohit and Shreyas Iyer. Virat Kohli (54) and KL Rahul stabilized the innings looking for a late rush in death over.
But then Pat Cummins landed a huge blow to India, as he had Kohli inside edging the ball onto his stumps, silencing the sea of Indian fans in Ahmedabad stadium.
However, amidst the tightly-secured event, the match witnessed an unusual disruption as an intruder managed to invade the pitch following the 14th over of the Indian batting innings. An intruder breached the security of the stadium and ran onto the ground.
Controversially, he wore a white t-shirt with slogans supporting Palestine in the ongoing Hamas-Israel war. The man came close to India's star batter Virat Kohli and also attempted to hug the batter.
The incident led to a slight delay in the proceedings as the security officials eventually caught hold of the intruder and took him away from the playing area.
The broadcasters refrained from showing the moment and no mention of it was made during the on-air commentary as well.
India are chasing a third World Cup title, while Australia will look to clinch a record-extending sixth World Cup trophy on Sunday.
