South Africa and Australia are facing off in the second semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2023 being played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 16. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bat first despite the threat of rain.
And the decision proved to be disastrous as Australian pacers made full use of overcast conditions to reduce Proteas for 24/4 at one stage. The top three of Quinton de Kock, Temba Bavuma, and Rassie van der Dussen all fell for single-digit scores with Bavuma scoring a duck.
Heinrich Klaasen made 47 runs, but it was David Miller, who pushed South Africa towards a respectable total. He made 101 In 116 balls with 8 fours and 5 sixes before getting out to Pat Cummins.
After his dismissal, South Africa gathered whatever runs they could and managed to post 212 runs in 49.4 overs. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins took three wickets each, while Josh Hazlewood and Travis Head took two scalps.
The cricket fraternity was praiseful of David Miller’s brilliant knock that brought some respectability to South Africa's total.
