CWC 2023: “Not deliberate”- Rachin Ravindra’s father reveals he's isn’t named after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid

Rachin Ravindra has 565 runs in CWC 2023 with 2 centuries to his name | XRachin Ravindra has emerged as New Zealand's breakout star in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. The allrounder has been in excellent form in his first participation in the competition, scoring three hundreds and contributing significantly to the team's progress to the semi-finals.

One of the most talked-about stories is that Rachin Ravindra's name is a combination of the names of India's batting legends Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. During an interview with the World Cup's official broadcaster, Ravindra revealed how his moniker came to be.

Ravindra's father, who immigrated to New Zealand from Bengaluru, claims the name was proposed by his wife and it wasn't until years later that they realized it was a combination of Sachin and Rahul, implying it wasn't a purposeful combination.

When Rachin was born, my wife suggested the name, and we didn’t spend a lot of time discussing it. The name sounded good, was easy to spell, and was short, so we decided to go with it. It was only some years later that we realized the name was a mix of Rahul and Sachin’s names. He wasn’t named with the intention to make our child a cricketer or anything of the sort,” Ravi Krishnamurthy, Ravindra’s father, told The Print.

Krishnamurthy himself used to play cricket and says he gave his children the freedom to pursue any field they chose to.

As parents, our hopes for our children extend to any field they choose to pursue. When Rachin expressed an interest in cricket, we supported him wholeheartedly and hoped he would excel in it, just as we would for our daughter in her chosen path,” Krishnamurthy said.

Ravindra currently has 565 runs in 9 matches in CWC 2023 and is third on the list of top run-getters behind India’s Virat Kohli and South African Quinton de Kock.
