Shreyas Iyer smashed a remarkable unbeaten century to help Team India beat the Netherlands by 160 runs in the 45th match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on November 12.

Iyer notched his maiden World Cup century off 84 balls and made an unbeaten 128, hitting 10 fours and five sixes during his memorable knock at the M Chinnaswami Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday against the Netherlands.

After he was adjudged Player of the Match, the Mumbaiker revealed that he took pills for the cramps during his knock in Bengaluru.

Shreyas Iyer said in the post-match presentation ceremony:I kind of had a deja vu. This had happened against Australia as well, and I threw my wicket and I came but this time I wanted to come not out. I took pills for the cramps. Today it came and I am very happy.”

He continued, “The scores I got in the last few days helped me. The wicket was playing tacky, a bit two paced. I wanted to capitalise on the start.”

Iyer also opened up about playing with a straight bat down the ground and the technical aspects of the shot, saying he practiced this shot a lot at nets.

He signed off by saying, “I have worked a lot on those shots, especially in the nets. I was trying to hit straight, and keep my head down. Get into a good position, and after that, it is a follow-through of the bat that ends behind my shoulder.”

Notably, Team India won nine of their matches in the league stage of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. India will face New Zealand in the first semifinal to be held on Wednesday, November 15 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
