Babar Azam’s men needed to beat the defending champions by at least 287 runs to eliminate New Zealand as the fourth semi-finalist on the basis of net run rate. In case of chasing, they ought to overhaul the target in less than five overs.

Since England won the toss and opted to bat first, Pakistan weren’t able to fulfill the first criteria while they were reduced to 18/2 after five overs in the chase.
