India’s performance in the ongoing World Cup has been phenomenal, to say the least. The Rohit Sharma-led side has won eight matches comprehensively so far against Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, England and South Africa.
The Men in Blue are due to face Netherlands in their last league fixture in Bangalore on November 12.
Ahead of the game, veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has claimed that this could probably be the 'strongest' Indian ODI team in history.
"I'm going out on a limb to say this but this Indian team is probably the strongest team that India has ever had in ODIs. In World Cups for sure. There's no Indian team that has dominated like this current 2023 team. You have to pit it against other Indian teams which have done very well but it will run other teams very close to it being the greatest ODI team ever in terms of performances and pressure," Karthik said while speaking to Cricbuzz.
As per the current calculations, India will most certainly face New Zealand in World Cup 2023 semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as teams like Pakistan and Afghanistan have improbable tasks at hand to surpass the net run rate of the Kiwis.
"It's in Mumbai, the first big decision, if they win the toss, will be if they would bat first or bowl first because there will be dew but then they will have to get past that first spell. The first 10 overs the ball swings and moves. There's no question what the level is going to be till the finals. It's going to be the same XI. Every players has ticked the box and is looking good for the semis," Karthik stated.
Notably, Team India haven’t won an ICC tournament for the last 10 years. After MS Dhoni led the side to a Champions Trophy triumph in 2013, India have lost as many as four ICC event finals and bowed out in the semi-finals on numerous occasions.
It will be interesting to see whether Rohit Sharma’s men will be able to end the ICC trophy drought or not.
