A shocking controversy erupted this week as Angelo Mathews was controversially dismissed timed out during an ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in Delhi.

The controversial incident took place in 25th over when Mathews' helmet strap came off as he prepped to face Shakib Al Hasan. This caused a delay as Mathews called for a new helmet.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan appealed to umpire and Mathews was dismissed timed out, becoming the first batter in international cricket to suffer this fate. Shakib stood firm in his decision, despite Mathews explaining to him what actually happened and didn't took his appeal back.

Even after the game, the Bangladesh captain didn’t change his stance, saying what he did was right and under the rules.

But Angelo Mathews’ brother Trevis Mathews slammed Shakib and said that the Bangladeshi all-rounder will not be welcomed in Sri Lanka.

Trevis Mathews was quoted as saying by BDCricTime: “We are very disappointed. Bangladeshi captain has no sportsman spirit and did not show humanity in the gentleman's game. We never expected this right from his captain to the rest of the team members.”

Trevis also claimed that Shakib will be pelted with stones if he ever comes to play in Sri Lanka.

He added, “Shakib is not welcome in Sri Lanka. If he comes here to play any international or LPL matches, stones will be thrown at him, or he will have to face the annoyance of the fans.”

Notably, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka both have been eliminated from the race of semi-finals in ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
