Former New Zealand cricketer-turned-commentator Ian Smith heaped rich praise on Glenn Maxwell for his amazing knock of 201* against Afghanistan in the 39th match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Maxwell single-handedly took the five-time champions Australia into the semifinals of the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023. The star all-rounder played one of the all-time best knocks in ODI cricket to guide Australia to a thrilling three-wicket win over Afghanistan at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Maxwell scored an unbelievable 201* with the help of 21 fours and 10 sixes to snatch a remarkable victory from the jaws of defeat, as the Aussies were once in danger at 91/7 in 18.3 overs against Afghanistan.
He was adjudged Player of the Match for his incredible knock and 1/55 in 10 overs.

Ian Smith was quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “It’s easy to say that it’s the greatest... I haven’t seen anything like this and I doubt if I will say anything like it again. I have seen great games of cricket and this was right up there. But I think it’s more about the individual, and that individual is Glenn Maxwell.”
Smith also said that Maxwell played like he had no legs, as the Aussie batted through severe cramps, and even he had to be treated multiple times at the Wankhede Stadium.
He signed off by saying, “I don’t know if there are any other cricketers who could do what he did. At one stage, he played like he had no legs, he had arms and will. To be able to sit up here in this commentary box and reflect on it and describe it was right up there. This has captured the imagination of the world. Glenn Maxwell is one of a kind, absolutely special.”
Australia will be looking for another win when they face Bangladesh on November 11 at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
