Kohli achieved a remarkable feat by scoring his 49th ODI century against South Africa at Kolkata's Eden Gardens on November 5, coinciding with his 35th birthday during the 37th match of the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023. With this ton, he equaled the record of Sachin Tendulkar for the most ODI tons.
Akhtar expressed his admiration for Kohli's unmatched drive to excel in a video shared on the X, highlighting how the right-hander’s commitment places him in a league of his own among the world's batters and his latest feat solidifying his status as a cricketing legend.
Shoaib Akhtar said in a video posted on X: “Kohli has now completed 49 centuries in ODI cricket. It's mind-boggling. Kohli has got to this landmark with sheer commitment, focus and fitness. His sheer will to become the best batter ever is what sets him apart from other batters.”
The former Pakistani pacer said that Kohli’s commitment is a lesson for youngsters who want to achieve their dreams. Kohli scored 101* off 121 balls, hitting 10 boundaries against South Africa. He is presently the second-highest run scorer at the CWC 2023, with 543 runs in 8 matches so far.
Akhtar signed off by saying, “There have been many great batters before but Kohli became the best through his sheer commitment. This is also a lesson for all youngsters who want to achieve their dreams.”
