CWC 2023: Sachin Tendulkar and Cricket fraternity reacts as Virat Kohli’s 101* on 35th birthday takes India to 326/5

Virat Kohli equaled Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49 ODI centuries, on his 35th birthday.

India is taking on South Africa in the 37th match of the current ICC World Cup 2023, at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 5, 2023. Both of these sides have qualified for the semi-finals.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first in the match. India made no changes to their starting lineup, while South Africa replaced Gerald Coetzee with Tabraiz Shamsi.

With a 24-ball 40 that contained two sixes and six fours, Rohit Sharma gave India a quick start, with Shubman Gill contributing 23 runs as well. The innings was shouldered and anchored by Virat Kohli.

Along with Shreyas Iyer, he added 134 runs for the third wicket, and absorbed pressure in middle overs.

Shreyas Iyer was out for 77 runs, but Virat Kohli persevered and made his 35th birthday even more memorable. He scored his 49th ODI century in 120 balls, with 10 fours, remaining unbeaten on 101.

Suryakumar Yadav's 22 in 14 balls and Ravindra Jadeja's 29* in 15 balls provided the much-needed flourish at the end, as  India finished their 50 overs with 326/5 setting South Africa a tough target on this tough surface.

Sachin Tendulkar congratulated Virat Kohli on equaling his record of 49 ODI tons and wished that he goes past him and scores his 50th century soon.

He posted: " Well played Virat. It took me 365 days to go from 49 to 50 earlier this year. I hope you go from 49 to 50 and break my record in the next few days. Congratulations!!"

The cricket fraternity was all praiseful of the Indian team for this brilliant display of batting and lauded them on X.
