Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill laid down a great platform for Indian batters to launch towards a huge score in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 match against Sri Lanka in Mumbai on November 2.
Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Islanders made one change as Dushan Hemantha came in for Dhananjaya de Silva, while India came into the match with the same XI.
Rohit Sharma got out on the second ball of the first over after hitting a four. But then Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli took command and played risk-free cricket adding 189 runs for the second wicket.
During their partnership, both Gill and Kohli dominated the Sri Lankan bowling and hit some silky shots to all parts of the Wankhede Stadium. Shubman Gill in particular was eye-catching as he played punchy shots to the square of the wicket.
His one particular shot even had Virat Kohli going wow in reaction. Gill stepped down to Dilshan Madushanka in the 16th over and just flat-batted a short ball passing the cover fielder. The ball thudded into the boundary. Virat Kohli just admired the shot and his facial reactions were the best compliment for that Shubman Gill shot.

Unfortunately, both batters got out before completing their centuries. Shubman Gill got out for 92 runs with 11 fours and 2 sixes, while Kohli made 88 runs with 11 fours. Both wickets were picked by Dilshan Madushanka.
