CWC 2023: WATCH- Shaheen Afridi becomes fastest pacer to 100 ODI wickets; Irfan Pathan congratulates him

Shaheen Afridi broke Mitchell Starc's record for fastest pacer to 100 ODI wickets.

Shaheen Afridi | GettyPakistani pacer Shaheen Afridi achieved a massive milestone in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 clash against Bangladesh. This match is being played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on October 31, 2023.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and chose to bat first. The Tigers made one change with Towhid Hridoy replacing Mahedi Hasan in the XI. Pakistan, on the other hand, made three changes as Fakhar Zaman, Agha Salman, and Usama Mir replaced Imam Ul Haq, Shadab Khan, and Mohammad Nawaz.

Leading the Pakistan bowling attack, Shaheen handed opener Tanzid Hasan a five-ball duck with the Bangladesh score on 0. With this wicket, Afridi joined an elite club of players with 100 wickets in One Day International (ODI) cricket. Interestingly, Afridi has become the quickest pacer to take 100 wickets in the 50-over format.

Afridi completed 100 ODI wickets in his 51st match, breaking the record of Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who had picked 100 wickets in 52 one-day matches. Afridi and Starc are followed by Shane Bond (54), Mustafizur Rahman (54), and Brett Lee (55).

However, Afridi remains the third fastest bowler overall to 100 ODI wickets. Afghanistan star Rashid Khan (44) and Nepal's Sandeep Lamichhane (42) reached the same milestone in lesser games.
