Bangladesh cricket team is having a torrid time in the ongoing Cricket World Cup in India. The Tigers have lost five out of six games so far and their semi-final hopes are virtually non-existent.

The Shakib Al Hasan-led side is due to face Pakistan in its next match at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Tuesday (October 31).

On the eve of the game, Shakib warned his players that "talk is cheap" and demanded they put words into action to salvage their battered pride.

"We discussed it, we had our team meetings, so we sat down, we talked about it, but we have to show it in action and that the talk is cheap when it's not working," said Shakib, as quoted by AFP.

"So, we'll do it at the ground so the action can take care of it and everyone can see it. I mean, only we can change the situation of the team with our actions. So that's what we are trying to do," he added.

Shakib has also failed to make a mark in this World Cup, amassing only 61 runs and claiming seven wickets from five appearances. He also drew criticism for going home last week to work with his personal batting coach.

"There is a lot to play for. As you know, we have to win to be able to qualify for the Champions Trophy. That's an important target I think we can set at this moment," said Shakib.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday (October 29) announced that the top seven teams in the World Cup 2023 league stage would qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy, along with hosts Pakistan.

This leaves Bangladesh in a tough spot since they are currently occupying the ninth position on the 10-team points table.

"We have to win. We have no other option and that's what we would look to do," said Shakib.
