CWC 2023: Inzamam-ul-Haq resigns as chief selector amid Pakistan’s poor run in World Cup

Pakistan have lost four out of their six games in the ongoing World Cup in India.

Inzamam-ul-Haq | GettyPakistan chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq on Monday (October 30) stepped down from his position in the midst of the national team’s forgettable World Cup 2023 campaign in India.

Inzamam sent his resignation letter to PCB following Pakistan's four-match losing streak in the showpiece tournament.

This development comes after reports of a potential conflict of interest emerged in the Pakistan media, involving Inzamam.

It has been alleged that Inzamam is a shareholder in "Yazo International Limited," a company owned by Talha Rehmani, who is an agent for Pakistan’s leading cricketers like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi.

Minutes after Inzamam’s resignation, PCB announced that it has set up a five-member committee to investigate the media allegations pertaining to the conflict of interest.

"Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has set up a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate allegations in respect of conflict of interest reported in the media pertaining to the team selection process. The committee will submit its report and any recommendations to the PCB Management in an expeditious manner," the statement read.

Meanwhile, Inzamam-ul-Haq has rubbished the claims of his association with the aforementioned company.

"People speak without research. Questions were raised on me so I decided that it was better I resign. If PCB wants to investigate me, I am available. People are talking [about me] without having any kind of proof, if there is any, then bring it. I have asked the PCB to do the same. I have no connection with the player agent company, these types of accusations hurt me," Inzamam quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

"I was told on a phone call that a five-member committee has been created, so I told the board that as long as the investigation is going on, I better resign,” he further said.

"When everything is back to normal and [the air has been clear], I will sit down with the PCB again," he concluded.
