Team India have impressed one and all with their clinical display in the ongoing Cricket World Cup at home. The Men in Blue have won all five matches so far against Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand.
India’s next match is scheduled against defending champions England in Lucknow on Sunday (October 29).
Ahead of the fixture, batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has advised the Indian players to not think too far ahead and just focus on one game at a time.
Gavaskar also mentioned that if chasing is the way that the hosts want to win, then they should continue doing that.
“You just want to win. India should just focus on the next match and that’s all. Don’t think too far ahead. If chasing is the way you want to win, then keep doing that. Don’t worry about the knockout stage as of yet. Just think about the England team. Don’t think about the future. The future will take care of itself,” Gavaskar told India Today in an exclusive chat.
England are enduring a tough time in this World Cup. The defending champions have lost four out of five games so far and they are on the brink of early elimination from the marquee event.
Talking about England’s issues, Gavaskar said: “The opening, England hasn’t got off to a start. If you look at all the teams that are struggling in this World Cup, none of them have got off to a good start. They've lost a couple of wickets in the first 10 overs. They haven't got a platform for their other batters to come in and blast away in the middle overs. England's problem has been that they haven't got off to a good start with the bat or with the ball.”
The Indian team remains the only unbeatable side in the tournament as of today. Rohit Sharma’s men need one more win out of the remaining four games to cement a place in the semi-final.
