CWC 2023: Cricket fraternity reacts as Netherlands register clinical 87-run win over Bangladesh

Netherlands made their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign even more special as they outplayed Bangladesh by 87 runs at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Saturday (October 28). With their fifth consecutive defeat, Bangladesh have also been eliminated from the semi-finals race.

Netherlands captain Scott Edwards won the toss and chose to bat first and then led from the front with 68 with his side in a spot of bother at 107/5. Sybrand Engelbrecht (35) and Logan van Beek (23*) also contributed useful cameos to take Netherlands to a competitive total of 229 all out in exactly 50 overs. Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mahedi Hasan took two wickets each for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh's innings was rocked right at the top as they were reduced to 70/6 by the 18th over. Mehidy Hasan Miraz top scored with 35, while Mahmudullah (20) and Mustafizur Rahman (20) delayed the inevitable as Netherlands completed a historic 87-run win, to follow up their unforgettable win over South Africa earlier.

Paul van Meekeren (4/23) was named the Player-of-the-Match, with Bas de Leede also picking up two important wickets in a professional bowling and fielding performance by the Dutch.
