CWC 2023: “Some people were concerned about empty seats,” Pathan takes a dig at Vaughan after England’s loss to Sri Lanka

Vaughan had tweeted about empty seats at the venues in first few matches of the World Cup.

England were outplayed by Sri Lanka in Bangalore | GettyFormer India all-rounder Irfan Pathan took a jibe at Michael Vaughan after England succumbed to a humiliating eight-wicket defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka in Match 25 of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Thursday (October 26).

In the initial few matches of the global tournament, former England captain Vaughan constantly tweeted about the empty seats at the venues.

Taking to social media platform X, Pathan wrote: “Some people were more concerned about empty seats in the stadiums, when it would have been wiser to focus on their cricket.”

His post was also perhaps directed at the Pakistani fans, who were making fun of the sparse attendance at some venues during the World Cup.

Notably, England and Pakistan teams are struggling badly in the ongoing World Cup. While the defending champions have lost four out of their five games so far, the Men in Green have registered only two wins from five matches.

Both teams are on the brink of elimination from the showpiece event. They have to win their remaining games and might have to rely on other sides to qualify for the final four.
