Glenn Maxwell played a memorable knock during Australia's resounding 309-run win over the Netherlands in an ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match in Delhi on Wednesday (October 25).

The match will be remembered for Maxwell's historic achievement, as the Australian all-rounder not only overcame a slow start to his World Cup 2023 campaign but also made a world record. He blazed to the fastest Word Cup century in just 40 balls, eclipsing Aiden Markram's previous feat of 49 balls.

Maxwell's power-packed performance was a sight to behold, as he unleashed an onslaught of eight sixes and nine boundaries in the death overs. His extraordinary innings helped Australia post a commanding total of 399 runs in their 50 overs against the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, David Warner, Maxwell's close friend and teammate, couldn't hide his thrill at witnessing the star all-rounder’s extraordinary display of talent and determination.

Warner, who also smashed his 6th hundred at the World Cup, revealed his chat with Maxwell after his record-breaking knock.

David Warner told Star Sports after the match: “Maxi said to me when he first came out that our partnerships were not going well. It was unbelievable. It was absolutely fantastic. He was disappointed last game to get out the first ball.”

He added, “To come out today and play the way he did was absolutely phenomenal and that's why we call the Big Show. The way he played today, he struck every ball in the middle. He even had the heart to come out and say it was the worst bat he has ever used but seems to clear the fence by a long way.”

Warner said, “For me, it's about going out there and doing my best. We live for those World Cups, every four years, we really have to shine at this stage. I try and emulate what I do in the bilateral series. To be in the same category and class is special.”

He signed off by saying, “We have watched them growing up [on Sachin and Ponting). They are legends of the game. Now, I am trying to stay in the present, maybe in 20-30 years, I will sit back and enjoy that.”
