India and Bangladesh clashed in MCA stadium in Pune on Thursday and the match saw the hosts crushing the Tigers in a one-sided contest to register their 4th win in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023.
Bangladesh had batted first and thanks to fifties from Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das posted 256/8 in 50 overs. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Ravindra Jadeja picked two wickets each for India.
In response, Shubman Gill (53), Rohit Sharma (48), and Virat Kohli (103*) took India home in 41.3 overs with 7 wickets in hand.
After the match, a video went viral on social media, in which a section of fans wearing India jerseys can be seen harassing Bangladeshi superfan Shoaib Ali. The fans also ripped apart his beloved stuffed tiger toy after Rohit Sharma's team defeated Bangladesh at Pune's MCA Stadium on October 19.
The video captures an individual in an Indian cricket team jersey tugging at the tiger's tail, causing the stuffing to spill out. Another person, also wearing an Indian jersey, is seen sharing a laugh with him.
Apparently, some of the fans from India apologized to Shoaib Ali for the incident he had to endure in Pune.
Shoaib Ali also shared the video on social media, expressing his profound disappointment. He mentioned his surprise at such behavior from Indian cricket enthusiasts and stressed the significance of upholding the spirit of cricket as a gentleman's game. He called for respect and courtesy during matches.
BDcrictime shared a video of Shoaib Ali saying: “Lots of love and respect for my Indian friends. But what can I say? It hurts. Please never do such things again. Cricket is a gentleman's game. Please watch and support the game gently.”
