CWC 2023: Suryakumar Yadav suffers injury scare in nets; Ishan Kishan bitten by honeybee ahead of New Zealand clash

Suryakumar Yadav copped a blow on his wrist | XOn the eve of the crucial World Cup 2023 clash against New Zealand in Dharamsala, India's middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav suffered an injury scare.

According to a report published in RevSportz, Surya was facing throwdown specialist Raghu in the nets when a delivery hit the upper part of his bat and the impact seemed to jar his right wrist, while other reports claimed he was hit directly on the forearm area.

The seriousness of the injury is yet to be ascertained, but Suryakumar walked out of the nets in pain and received treatment from the medical staff.

As per the report, an ice pack was applied to his right wrist and the medical staff also taped up that discomforting area.

Notably, the hosts are already dealing with injury issues. During the match against Bangladesh in Pune on October 19, all-rounder Hardik Pandya sustained an injury to his left ankle and has been ruled out of the fixture against New Zealand.

There were some reports claiming that Suryakumar Yadav will make his World Cup debut against New Zealand in the absence of Hardik, but the injury scare has put his inclusion in jeopardy.

In another unfortunate incident, India’s wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan was bitten by a honeybee on the back of his head during the training session in Dharamsala. The southpaw made an exit from the nets soon after the mishap.

The Indian cricket team has had a terrific start to its World Cup 2023 campaign. Rohit Sharma and his men have won all four matches convincingly so far against Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
