India’s batting superstar Virat Kohli is just one ton away from equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI hundreds, having cracked his 48th century in the recent ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh.

Praising Kohli’s prowess as a batter following his remarkable hundred, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan said that his century against Bangladesh seems to be a lot more special for Virat, especially the way he celebrated in Pune.

Pathan also said that Tendulkar would be the one person who would be happier than Kohli and his fans when the former Indian skipper equalled or overtook his long-standing record in ODI cricket.

Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports: “It's extremely special in Virat Kohli's mind, considering the way he celebrated. He has one eye on the World Cup for sure but there is one more thing as well, he is going closer to Sachin Tendulkar's centuries.”

The former Indian all-rounder continued, “I believe when the century happens, Sachin Tendulkar will be happier than Virat Kohli and his fans.”

Pathan signed off by saying, “He looked focused from the first ball itself. It seemed like he would finish the match when he walked out to bat. We were seeing posters of Virat as GOAT; he is not called the greatest of all time for nothing.”

Notably, India is all set to face New Zealand in their next World Cup 2023 match in Dharamshala on Sunday, October 22. The hosts have won all their four games in the tournament.
