The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday (October 17) confirmed that it has filed an official complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding "inappropriate conduct targeted at the Pakistan squad” during the India versus Pakistan World Cup 2023 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The PCB did not mention the exact nature of the incident that it was unhappy about during the match, in which Pakistan suffered a humiliating seven-wicket defeat at the hands of India.
The PCB also said that it has lodged a 'formal protest' over the delay in visas for Pakistan journalists and the absence of a visa policy for Pakistan fans.
Taking to social media platform X, PCB wrote: "The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged another formal protest with the ICC over delays in visas for Pakistani journalists and the absence of a visa policy for Pakistan fans for the ongoing World Cup 2023."
"The PCB has also filed a complaint regarding inappropriate conduct targeted at the Pakistan squad during the India vs Pakistan match held on 14 October 2023," the governing body added.
Earlier, a PTI report claimed that PCB’s management committee chairman Zaka Ashraf, who attended the match in Ahmedabad, is having a series of meetings with the senior board officials to discuss his visit to India.
"Zaka Ashraf was himself present at Ahmedabad for the match against India and is witness to some incidents which has left him unhappy despite the Indian cricket officials' hospitality during his stay there," PTI quoted a source as saying.
The source further stated that the chairman was at present only discussing his visit with his senior aides.
Soon after the match against India, Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur spoke about the crowd behaviour and its impact on his team. He went on to say that it felt like a bilateral series game organized by BCCI rather than an ICC event.
The source said Zaka Ashraf was utterly disappointed with the team’s poor display against India and advised the players to forget the Ahmedabad defeat.
