Australia finally managed to open its account in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 with a five-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Lucknow on October 16, thanks to brilliant fifties from Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh and the four-wicket haul by Adam Zampa.

After Australia’s much-needed win at the Cricket World Cup 2023, Marsh and Sunil Gavaskar were involved in an amusing conversation about the Australian all-rounder's explosive batting. Actually, Mitch's batting is completely different from that of his father, Geoff Marsh.

While Geoff’s strike rate was 55.33 across 117 ODIs, Mitch's is 93.85, and Gavaskar couldn't restrict himself from observing the different approach of the father-son duo, having played plenty against the senior Marsh during his days.

So, the legendary Indian cricketer couldn’t wait when he got the opportunity after the match to ask Mitch Marsh about the same, and he ended up getting a hilarious response from the Australian all-rounder.

Gavaskar asked, “Didn't your father teach you to play like this? (gestures with a defensive shot) Because all you're doing is BANG, BANG, BANG?”

To which Marsh said, “I'm just making up for his poor strike rates. The boys are calling me Usain Bolt.”

The Aussie continued, “Felt like one of those dreams where you're running back for a run but you can't run. But yeah, it was a really good day for us. We came into this game under a little bit of pressure after a slow start but it was a complete performance. There was plenty of hurt.”

Marsh concluded, “We came here with high expectations of wanting to get off to a good start. Truth is, we played against some really good sides and were a little off the mark. In these big tournaments, you can't afford to and probably today hopefully is a stepping stone in the right direction for us.”
